The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) published today on its website the Cloud Policy Framework that was developed by the CRA and approved by the Cabinet during the Cabinet's regular meeting, held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
The Cloud Policy Framework provides trusted access principles for all stakeholders in the cloud value chain and defines a comprehensive set of policy and regulatory recommendations to stakeholders from the public and private sectors that are aligned with international laws and best practices. The Framework establishes a cloud-friendly environment for domestic and foreign investments in data centers and cloud services and ensures that essential requirements such as security, privacy, data protection, transparency and digital inclusion are met for both individuals and businesses.
The State of Qatar has placed the development of cloud computing at the heart of its digital transformation strategy, as it enhances efficiency and productivity and is an opportunity for Qatar-based businesses to grow, for public and private entities to provide better services and, ultimately, for Qatar to become a fully digitalized country, which will benefit consumers, stakeholders, and the national economy.
The CRA is grateful for the Cabinet’s approval and support for the growth of the local Information Technology (IT) industry, as the Cloud Policy Framework supports Qatar's ambition to establish itself as a leading regional digital hub, a home to international digital players and an attractive destination for domestic and foreign investments in innovative digital services. Therefore, the Framework contributes to achieving Qatar National Second Development Strategy 2018-2022 and Qatar National Vision 2030 goals; develop a sustainable and high-quality infrastructure that supports the national economy and is capable of keeping abreast of the latest smart technologies and creating a balance between an oil-based and a knowledge-based economy, towards the diversification of the country’s economy.
CRA launched earlier a public consultation on the draft of the Cloud Policy Framework with the aim of providing all interested stakeholders with an opportunity to provide their views and comments on the draft version. During the coming period, the CRA will engage with all stakeholders from the public and private sectors to start implementing the Framework and the set recommendations mentioned in it.
